On Friday, we continued to edit our commercial for NyQuil. We struggled deciding on some background music for our non verbal scenes, so we scrolled through the music already on the computer. We couldn’t decide on anything from there because we didn’t think it fit well with the video. After we scrolled through all the iTunes music, we decided to search on google for some free background music to get some better options. While that was going on, I was searching through my iTunes to find long instrumentals that might work with the commercial. We were still undecided on the background and we picked the most common one.
Editing Pt. 1
As a group we sat around the computer in class and uploaded our videos to iMovie. Faith has started to organize the videos in order we had planned for them to occur in. As Faith was doing that, I got asked to help another group with their filming for a quick scene. As I was gone, Faith had cut and edited the scenes in attempts to match our storyboard. When I returned, Faith had gone home early, and Leo and Shaundre were searching sound affects for the non-verbal scenes. We discussed different affects that would and wouldn’t work with the scene or layout of the commercial. We worked on editing until the end of class.
Filming pt.2
On Friday, our group had continued our process of filming. We went to the courtyard and filmed some of Leo’s speaking scenes. We then went to the media center, and with permission from Ms. Knopp, we filmed some more scenes indoors, as we didn’t want our only setting to be outdoors. After we filmed for the day, we went back into the media room and uploaded our videos to our computer. After we uploaded our videos, we realized that our new set of videos had almost an old finish or tint to it. The bell was about to ring, so we decided to leave the videos as they were and to finish editing our commercial next class.
Filming Pt. 1
In class on Wednesday, my group had started the process of filming our commercial. We started out be gathering our materials before we went and got a pass to go film from our teacher. We then as a group exited the classroom and searched the campus for our first filming spot. Our first filming spot was next to the Baseball Field, and I laid in the grass to represent me sleeping from the effect of the NyQuil. We also shot another part of the commercial next to the Baseball Field, but on a bench of another group member asleep. We then moved into a shadier part of campus, because it was hot and we needed a different setting to do another scene of our commercial. We then attempted to film two parts of that scene, but were only able to get one done because of the lunch bell. Next class we will be filming too.
Finalizing the Idea of our Commercial
Today we finalized our storyboard, and made sure that the topic is what we wanted to do. We received a pass from Mrs. DeSantis, and went around the school to look for places to film in the next classes for our commercial. We talked about props that we wanted to bring in and the basic theme of the commercial. We also discussed how we were going to make it seem like our character was taking NyQuil without actually taking it at school. NyQuil isn’t allowed in schools, so we had the idea to mix blue and purple Gatorade in order to get the color to match the NyQuil.
Storyboard
Today in class we learned about how to start out commercial assignment due on October 12th. Before we can start the filming of our commercial, we have to sketch a storyboard, giving an idea of how our commercial will turn out. My group and I gave ideas of what brand we should make our commercial to. In the beginning, we had the set idea to do Old Spice, but considering the complexity of Old Spice commercials, we decided to do a slightly easier brand. We ended up making a joke about NyQuil, and now we are going to use that as our brand for the commercial. We sketched the storyboard and we were finished for the day. Below is our storyboard

Introduction Blog
My name is Sarah Carbonara, and I am writing this blog to keep my mother sane. I am taking AICE Media Studies, and if I don’t get a good grade, my mother will be freak out, and I will be in trouble. Other than that, the main purpose of this blog is to write about myself and have other people read about my progress within this class. Something interesting about myself is that I can’t not do something. It’s hard for me to relax because I am always anxious that I am forgetting something. That is why I do so much, such as 2 soccer teams, and hanging out with friends. If I need a break to ‘relax’, I will go to sleep, wake up, and continue whatever I was doing. I will keep the blog updated every Monday and Thursday for a certain extent of this school year.
