Conventions Blog #2

We have been asked to compare our film opening to other movies with the same genre. The movie “Bohemian Rhapsody” tells the story of Freddie Mercury and his life story. They made the movie in chronological order, which makes the whole movie a backstory of his life; this relates to our film opening, because we will be opening with a backstory. In the move “Titanic,” the hitting of the iceberg was an unexpected event; in our film opening, at some point there will be an unexpected turn. In the movie “Forrest Gump,” it tells the story about the main character’s life; that is what we will be doing in our film opening.

The genre of our film is going to be a drama almost documentary-like. Three possible characterizations that we will be using are the “sport obsessed father,” the “sport obsessed child,” and the “famous sports star.” Three costume ideas are “little league outfit,” the “business man outfit,” and the “All-Stars outfit.” Three prop ideas are running shoes, hurdles, and a track step starter. Lighting technique will be used when an injury is sustained by the All-Star form of the main character. The lighting will go white and it will fade out with non-diegetic sounds of a heart beat or suspenseful noise of some sort. Diegetic sounds in the film opening will be dialogue between the characters in the film.

Our Pitches

Our pitches are the opposite of each other from beginning to end. The first pitch states “Division 1 athlete in the prime of their career sustains a dangerous injury. Turns to drugs and alcohol abuse to cope with life.” Our pitch was too long to be our final task video, so we decided to just keep the video going up until the injury. The second pitch states “Drug and alcohol addict turns their life around to become a Division 1 athlete.” We chose the first pitch, but without the drug and alcohol abuse.

Pitch Blog

Today we started our discussion of our pitch. A pitch is a form of words used when trying to persuade someone to buy or accept something. We were asked to create two pitches for the final task movie opening. We need two pitches so we have options of the final task genres to choose from. We started discussing genres and pitch ideas once given the final task.

Final Task Group Formation Blog

I have chosen to do the final task with a group of students that I believe have creativity and knowledge of how to compete this task. I believe that with our minds put together we can create a creative and impressive movie. Other participants in my group include: Shaundre Charlotin and Joshua Dawson. We will work together to create a movie as our final task for AICE Media Studies. Next, we will work together for ideas to create our pitch.

Final Task Introduction Blog

Hi, I’m Sarah Carbonara, 0097, and I’m involved in the AICE Media Studies AS Level class. I am taking this class to improve my skills and knowledge in filmmaking and editing. I believe that this information can be useful at any point in life such as job finding or even just skills for hobbies, such as photography or videography. I play soccer and I do photography as a hobby, and I love to gather information that I believe I would find interesting. This course can help me solve problems and achieve goals that may be useful later in my adult life.

Re-enactment Assignment

My group and I have decided to make out re-enactment video on the example sales call between three characters on the Office. Jim and Dwight’s performance reviews were worse than normal and were later to be found biased by the character Kelly for her being mad at them. But, before that could happen, Michael the manager wants to have Jim and Dwight make an example of the “perfect sales call” meanwhile during the call, Jim pulls one of his famous pranks on Dwight. Jim uses all the phrases customers had so called “reviewed him with” as a way to get on his nerves. The scene is a hilarious depiction of Jim and Dwight’s relationship for that season so I wanted to have that be our re-enactment

New Project

Last class, we watched everyone’s submitted Music Videos for majority of the class period. We then received a new assignment where we are now meant to copy a scene from a TV show or movie. Faith, Jaylina and I discussed that we most likely want to go with the genre of comedy, and something people might know. I started researching scenes from The Office, and Glee because they have some comedic scenes involved. Faith and Jaylina went home and did their own research.
